Apart from the normal announcements in Tell Everyone About... I have included a new part that focuses on Corey Rudl's stuff. I have, many times, been asked about the products I used to create this site and it seems only right to highlight one in every edition. In this edition, I have highlighted the very last interview that Corey agreed to prior to his untimely death earlier this year. Read more about this below.
I have included some new articles and unfortunately, have not received a reply from any of the others.
I hope you enjoy reading this edition of the newsletter.

IV. StoryAsia
Deepavali – a new accounting year
On the 1st of November this year, I celebrated Deepavali (the Festival of Lights) with my family. In this edition of Story Asia, I thought I would share with you a unique part of this festival - it relates to a small number of business people who still keep a tradition alive.
Let's start with some of the stories behind why Deepavali is celebrated. The most common reason is that Krishna is supposed to have vanquished Kamsa and, therefore, Deepavali denotes a celebration of good over evil. In Punjab, Deepavali is dedicated to the worship of Lord Rama. It is also said to that during this time of Deepavali, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple in Amritsar was laid in 1577. Furthermore, it is said that Deepavali played an important role in the life of Sri Guru Hargobind Ji, the sixth Guru of the Sikhs - apparently when the Mogul Emperor Jehangir arrested Guru Hargobind and put him prison, he was released a few days before Deepavali. Guru Hargobind went back to Amritsar and appeared before his people, on the day of Deepavali.
Traditionally, Deepavali is a festival that lasts five days and the climax is the third day, when the moon completely wanes and there is total darkness in the sky.
Some of the celebrations that are conducted on Deepavali are as follows:
One of the goddesses worshipped during this festival is the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. She is said to symbolise all the positive forces of life and the divine nature of wealth. It is also said that during Deepavali the Sun enters its second course and passes Libra, which is represented by the 'Balance' or 'Scale'. [http://www.matiyapatidar.com/diwali_fest.htm]. It is, for these reasons that businessmen begin their new fiscal year during Deepavali.
To all those celebrating Deepavali, I hope you have a happy time.

V. Tips for Storytellers
Tips for Public Speaking - Part 2 - Create your tale
This is the second in a five-part series on Tips for Public Speaking.
In this part I will show you how to create your story. Once you have an idea of the story you would like to tell, add the following. For example, you have chosen to talk about the person you will never forgive for what he has done to you. Start with a beginning and relate a little of the background to your story. Then, in the middle, describe the conflicts that you had to deal with and in the end, explain how you handled the conflict. Of course, as you progress, you will be able to mix these all up but you can only do this when you've mastered the basics. Sometimes, even the most confident of storytellers are fearful to do this but really, nervousness is good—it shows that what you're doing is important to you and you're thinking about the story.

IX. Beyond 'How To ...' !
To find a solution, one must find the cause. Situations, stories and paragraphs like the one above usually show an underlying 'problem'. Simply figuring out how it happened and how to solve it is not good enough. Go beyond the ‘how to…’ and you will come to why it happened in the first place. Send your thoughts on the above topic or even on the views projected to editor@howtotellagreatstory.com or eric@howtotellagreatstory.com and please put ‘beyond how to’ in the subject line. Please do not send any profanity.
XX. What our readers are saying!
Hi Aneeta,
The story about the milk and the sugar is a well-known Parsee story (I have a Parsee friend) and is also featured in the book, 'Colours of Harmony' which I helped edit for the Inter-Religious Harmony Circle. It was launched by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports on 16th July this year, and was was distributed free to all Primary schools in time for Racial Harmony Day on 21st July 05. Other organisations also use it as required.
Keep in touch!
