This edition of the newsletter seems to revolve around the concept of
courage. For 1000 Reviews, I reviewed Robert Schwartz's
Courageous Souls and in Blow Your Own Trumpet!, I interviewed
Jennifer Hollowell. Jennifer, in particular, tells of the nasty comments
one of her teachers made when she told him she wanted to be a writer.
When reading their stories and journeys to success, I am humbled by how
they've overcome all of these hurdles and achieved their very own
versions of success. You can find links to all these pieces below.
I am also
looking for more storytellers to interview for Blow Your Own Trumpet!.
If you would like to be interviewed or know of anyone, please send me an
email.
I thank all of you who have taken the trouble to write to me with your
comments about the stories featured in our last edition. I would like to
request that you do not reply to this email address as I almost missed
some of the comments last time. Please send any comments you may have to
editor@howtotellagreatstory.com. Thank you.
As always, there are new pieces in StoryAsia, Jack's Fables,
Storytellers Nuts and Bolts more resources for storytellers and also new
announcements.
I hope you enjoy the information shared.
Here's to your storytelling success.

In the first bus
I used to take to work, the passengers were barely cordial in their behaviour
towards each other. We greeted each other with, “Good Morning,” and went as far
as offering an available empty seat.

Begging to go back
The workhouse was a grim place,
made more so by the devilish master, his wife and his cretinous dogs, Wilf and
Dick. The master loved his status in the area, which he conferred upon himself
by his stove-pipe hat, lamb-chop sideburns, long black moleskin coat and
impossibly booming voice, which could raise the dead, and often did.

Words Writers
Misspell
Contrary to popular belief,
not all writers are good spellers. In fact, and unfortunately, many
writers—particularly writing “newbies”—are not. Even self-professed “grammar
queens” and “grammar nazis” are guilty of making regular spelling mistakes.

2 Negatives make a Positive
- interview with Jennifer Hollowell
Excerpts ...
Jennifer: ... "I'm
going to be a writer." I couldn't help smiling when I said those words.
It was the first time in a long time I was talking about something that truly
made me happy.
He started laughing
uncontrollably, to the point of tears in his eyes, before finally saying,
"you'll never be a writer."
Those words stung. They
motivated me, though.

Pisces’ Child
Excerpts ...
In general, Pisces is
misunderstood and ends up as a loner. They love people and have a deep
desire to connect on a spiritual soul-to-soul level, but they end up protecting
themselves behind walls for their own safety.

25 Ways to Fail
as a Freelance Writer
1. Don’t set yourself a writing routine or stick
to it.
2. Always make sure that doing your writing is
at the bottom of your list of priorities, and
even when you are writing, if something else you
have to do that day springs to mind, then go and
do that instead.

Courageous Souls
by Robert Schwartz
Excerpts ...
When writing a review, it is necessary to be critical.
If most reviewers are honest, this means that they may,
sometimes, have to be brutal in their criticism; it
might be necessary to find some fault with the
book they're reviewing. However, with Courageous
Souls, this was no easy task as the book is, in my
opinion, without a flaw.
