MESSAGE FROM ANEETA

Dear [FIRSTNAME],

The winner of a copy of the ebook, I Love You Sun by Maan Del Rosario, is Amar Uhizat. Amar, please send me an email to claim your copy of this ebook. As no one has submitted a book for this edition's contest, I'm afraid I have nothing to offer this time. If you have a book/product/service you'd like to offer for our contest, please send me an email and I'd be happy to mention it in the next edition of the newsletter.

Jack, Eric and Kristy have each submitted new pieces for their respective columns, Jack's Fables, Infosynthesis and Storyteller's Nuts and Bolts. I'd urge you to read them as they're all interesting.

I have an interview with Jeanette W Vaughn posted under Blow Your Own Trumpet! and there are some new announcements sent in which I've posted under 'Tell Everyone About'. I'd like make special mention of the one concerning the publication of a book, Before You Take Lit 101.  I think my comment - Before You Take Lit 101 is honestly a work of art. It is at times imaginative, at times humorous, at times beautiful; above all, Before You Take Lit 101 is immensely educational for anyone who is even remotely interested in Literature - says it all.

I've updated some of the websites listed under the column resources for storytellers. As for the blogs, I was going through some of those listed on the 'Blogs for storytellers' Page and the links seemed to fail for various reasons (the blogs are no longer in use or have moved). What I'd like to request from you, is this - if you know of blogs that are interesting, please do let me know and I'll add them to this resource.

Speaking of blogs, I've posted the text of an interview which appeared in the daily newspaper here in Malaysia, on my blog, The Candid Storyteller. I would love some feedback ... on this and some of the other posts, please!

I hope you enjoy the information shared.

Here's to your storytelling success.

Storyteller's Nuts and Bolts

Confused By Some Words?

How many times have you typed a word only to find that it wasn’t quite the one you thought it was? This happens all the time as we bash out our words on the keyboard, unaware that we should have used the ‘other’ version of a particular word in its place.

BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET!

Voice of Creativity - Interview with Jeanette W. Vaughn

Excerpts ...

Jeanette:  Kuumba is an African word, KiSwahili, meaning creativity.  Creativity (Kuumba) is one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa (first fruits).  Kwanzaa is an African-American cultural celebration-taking place between Dec. 26 and Jan. 1st.  A different principle is celebrate each day.  Storytelling draws on our creativity and connects us to our heritage.

ZODIAC'S CHILDREN

Leo's Child

Excerpts ...

Everyone always says that Cancer’s children are moody and they grow up to be moody adults.  I have to disagree.  All of the Cancers that I have ever met were rather stable emotionally speaking.

ARTICLES FOR STORYTELLERS

Creating Vivid Characters

Most people listen to stories – in the newspaper, or in anecdotes, novels, films, etc. – to hear about people. What did they do, and why? How did they react to this or that odd situation? How are they different from me, and how are we the same? We watch Indiana Jones battling his fear of snakes, Jane Austen’s Emma match-making for her friends, Robin Hood winning an archery contest, or a local firefighter running into a burning building and saving a child’s life on the evening news, and we say, "Wow! I could never do that!" or, "Yeah, I could do that, too, if I was in that situation," or, "I wonder what I would do?"

It Works by Ronald G. Miller

Excerpts ...

It Works is a non-fiction piece of work and can safely be categorised under the self-help genre. On the back cover of the book, it is stated that Ronald Miller ‘shows us how to achieve all our dreams and desires through’ mind power and goal setting, the process of goal setting and tools and resources for successful goal setting.

The Mee Street Chronicles: Straight Up Stories of a Black Woman's Life by Frankie Lennon

Excerpts ...

Autobiographies are a dime a dozen, and going by the school of thought that everyone has a story in them, ergo, everyone has an autobiography in them. But what then makes a memoir powerful? Surely, the thoughts of figures who have made significant achievements are of interest to others.

Ochre As The Earth by Sharanya Manivannan

Excerpts ...

Sometimes I think you would have to be absolutely androgynous not to want to make love to me.

As far as opening lines go, this one will forever stand out in my mind. They were the ones uttered by Sharanya Manivannan during her solo show, Ochre As The Earth.

WHAT’S FUNNY ABOUT LITERATURE?

PLENTY, SAYS NEW BOOK BY SEOUL’S ‘MYSTERY WRITER’

If the word “literature” puts you to sleep, then wake up -- and smile!

Lingua Forum, Korea's eminent publisher of educational materials, shows you the funny side of literature in Before You Take Lit 101: A Postliterate’s Guide to Literature.

Written for the “postliterate generation,” Before You Take Lit 101 is getting glowing comments from around the world.

“The future of human civilization itself may well depend on this book,” writes American novelist Jim Knipfel, author of The Buzzing and Quitting the Nairobi Trio.

The author is “The Mystery Writer,” whose identity readers must guess … for now.
