MESSAGE FROM ANEETA

Hello Storyteller,

I was speaking with a friend and telling her some of my concerns and struggle about finding information to share with you. She gave me a brilliant solution in that she asked me to ask my subscribers for help. With that in mind, I would really appreciate it if you could help me with the following:

1. If you have a book/product you'd like free promotion for, please offer it for our contest.

2. If you know of someone (yourself included) who would benefit from being interviewed for 'Blow Your Own Trumpet!' please ask them to contact me.

3. If you've written articles on anything at all to do with storytelling (whether it's fiction writing, the art of conversation ... anything really), please send it to me and I can add to our database of articles.

4. If you've written reviews for books/plays/shows and so on which you are willing to share with other readers, please send them to me.

You can contact me by sending an email to editor@howtotellagreatstory.com

These requests do not mean there's nothing new to share with you in this edition: there are new stories in Jack's Fables, Infosynthesis and also Storyteller's Nuts and Bolts.

The winner of a copy of Snapshots! is someone whose display name for the email is this -  koppikar sg. Can you please contact me and I'll send you a copy of the ebook.

I hope you enjoy the information shared.

Here's to your storytelling success.

The Disappearing Comma

When is a comma not a comma? When it’s missing! The most important job for a comma is to prevent confusion for the reader. If a comma isn’t there, the reader may become lost.

BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET!

LadyBug, StoryBug – interview with Karen Chace

Excerpts ...

Karen: A storyteller share a story? I thought you would never ask!

The Difference Between Heaven and Hell

Many years ago a wealthy man asked a wise Buddhist to see the difference between Heaven and Hell. The wise man obliged and when the gates of Hell were thrown open their eyes fell upon a magnificent hall. Before them lay a table set with the finest china and crystal, each plate sumptuously filled with food and fruits from the far corners of the world. Every goblet was filled to the brim with sweet wine. Around the lavish table men and women sat, but their faces were distorted in agony, their voices rang out in anguish, they were malnourished, emaciated.

StoryMaker - Interview with James Bonnet

Excerpts ...

James:  I make a distinction between storytelling and storymaking. Storytelling is the retelling of a tale that already exists. Storymaking involves the invention and creation of a new story. My work is primarily concerned with the creation of new stories, either fiction or non-fiction, that will become story films or novels. Applied to a film, one might say that the screenwriter is the storymaker and the director is the storyteller, and sometimes the same person functions in both capacities.

ZODIAC'S CHILDREN

Cancer's Child

Excerpts ...

Everyone always says that Cancer’s children are moody and they grow up to be moody adults.  I have to disagree.  All of the Cancers that I have ever met were rather stable emotionally speaking.

Seven Ways To Connect Your Writing And Your Life

During the twenty years I’ve taught writing, hundreds of students have expressed the belief that success and personal integrity are mutually exclusive.

The Lifewriting™ approach to fiction suggests that not only do these two qualities overlap, but that the safest, surest, most satisfying path to discovering your true voice, your deepest creative flow, and ultimately crafting the most satisfying career, is to be true to yourself

It Works by Ronald G. Miller

Excerpts ...

It Works is a non-fiction piece of work and can safely be categorised under the self-help genre. On the back cover of the book, it is stated that Ronald Miller ‘shows us how to achieve all our dreams and desires through’ mind power and goal setting, the process of goal setting and tools and resources for successful goal setting.

The Mee Street Chronicles: Straight Up Stories of a Black Woman's Life by Frankie Lennon

Excerpts ...

Autobiographies are a dime a dozen, and going by the school of thought that everyone has a story in them, ergo, everyone has an autobiography in them. But what then makes a memoir powerful? Surely, the thoughts of figures who have made significant achievements are of interest to others.

Ochre As The Earth by Sharanya Manivannan

Excerpts ...

Sometimes I think you would have to be absolutely androgynous not to want to make love to me.

As far as opening lines go, this one will forever stand out in my mind. They were the ones uttered by Sharanya Manivannan during her solo show, Ochre As The Earth.
