Your story about your family's photo was wonderful. ...

I hope your story inspires others to get regular family shots.

Linda Gorham

Aneeta, I just finally sat down and read last months' newsletter.  I found your story about the Family Photo very poignant.  Your words were skillfully chosen to craft your story into a simple, but powerful piece.  Well done!

best,

Leanne Johnson, Storyteller

MESSAGE FROM ANEETA

Hello Storyteller,

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and full of stories to tell.

My request in the last edition of the newsletter resulted in an interview with Frankie Lennon, author of The Mee Street Chronicles. Also, I've featured Penny Halgren who tells about her love of quiliting and the element of storytelling in that task.

For 1000 Reviews, I've posted my newest review which is that of Khushwant Singh's Burial At Sea. And yes, if you have reviews you've written, which you'd like posted on this site, please send them on to me.

As always, there are new pieces in StoryAsia, Jack's Fables, Storytellers Nuts and Bolts, Zodiac's Children and more resources for storytellers.

The winner of a copy of Eric Okeke's first book, I Want A Husband is Rasana Atreya. Rasana, please contact Eric at ericosamba@yahoo.com to obtain your copy of this book.

The book offered for the current contest is a copy of Frankie Lennon's The Mee Street Chronicles. Click here to enter this contest.

I hope you enjoy the information shared.

Here's to your storytelling success.

Transfer of values through storytelling

This story shall the good man teach his son;

STORYASIA

The Earrings

My wife was one of those pretty and charming girls born, as though God made a mistake with her, into a family of labourers who lived in a low-cost flat. As such, she had minimal education, few opportunities to further her studies, no means of getting to know suitable young men and absolutely no chances of falling in love prior to marriage.

Jack's Fables

The Dolce Vita

Billy could get through until lunchtime without his Ritalin. If he missed his dose, all hell would break loose in the school trough.

Storytellers Nuts and Bolts

Words Writers Misspell

Contrary to popular belief, not all writers are good spellers. In fact, and unfortunately, many writers—particularly writing “newbies”—are not. Even self-professed “grammar queens” and “grammar nazis” are guilty of making regular spelling mistakes.

BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET!

How To Make A Storytelling Quilt - interview with Penny Halgren

Excerpts ...

Aneeta: There are, obviously, many kinds of stories with specific themes – fairy tales, adventure tales, romance, horror stories and so on. When you first make a quilt, how to pick such a theme?

Penny:  It’s interesting that you ask that question.  I have never really thought about the correlation, but in many of my quilts, there is.  The 3 dimensional blocks above took on a science fiction/space theme.  I think the theme kind of evolves as I make the quilt.

Chronicles of a Storyteller - interview with Frankie Lennon

Excerpts ...

Frankie: The Mee St. Chronicles is a very candid, passionate memoir of my battle to claim my own life and sexual identity. In it, I narrate stories starting with my childhood and take you with me on my turbulent life journey & struggle to find freedom from the many prisons that bind me. How the conflicts in my life play out give my stories page-turning drama that I think readers will enjoy.

ZODIAC'S CHILDREN

Aries’ Child

Excerpts ...

Aries is the sign of the entrepreneur.  Think of those traits that make up a successful entrepreneur… they are bright and hard working, most comfortable working as a one man show, love to be the first to discover and present things to the world, and rarely allow others to dominate them.

ARTICLES FOR STORYTELLERS

How to Use Time and Timing Wisely when Telling Stories

Anyone who has told stories often knows the importance of time and timing. Used with planning, time can be a storyteller’s best friend. Used without thought, however, time can ruin a performance and rob a teller of credibility, reputation, and the joy of experiencing eager listeners. In this column, I will highlight the ins and outs of time management for storytellers – and I am not referring to the Day Planner kind of time management.

Burial At Sea by Khushwant Singh

Excerpts ...

Burial At Sea is not a big book. Less than 200 pages it is a short tale and on the jacket cover of the book, a summary of the story is given; it states:

After Nehru, Victor Jai Bhagwan is Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite Indian – a brilliant young man with the temperament of a leader and fiercely committed to his country.
