Storytellers Eight - interview with Francess Raymundo
Excerpts ...
Francess:
I was born and raised here in Manila. I didn't actually have a very happy childhood but I spent nursery to Senior high in a great convent school managed by French nuns [ St Paul of Chartres nuns] which is a part of my personal history that has been of great help where emotional maturity is concerned. I still live in Manila but I do plan to migrate and start a new life abroad. I'm almost thirty. I am a teacher. I teach English for tertiary level. I also teach primary and advanced level piano and violin for Yamaha, Inc. . I'm a writer and I own a small publishing company. BSugarBooks Brown Sugar Publishing Philippines,
Ltd. Formerly known as Solaenum Publishing Manila.

Bob the Storyteller - interview with Nury Vittachi
Excerpts ...
Aneeta: Usually, I like to ask people to start by telling a little about where they grew up, their youth and so on. But with you, your name alone is a point of conversation. I’ve read, on your website, http://www.misterjam.com, that your full name is Nuryana Samjam Perera de Lacey Vittachi. Now, for the benefit of my readers, do please explain this derivation.
Nury: It’s a legal requirement for South Asians to
have long difficult names.

Published in Perth
Excerpts ...
I honestly believe that Perth gets a bad rap from the rest of Australia. I have lived in Perth for almost eight years now and am tired of hearing comparisons to the more established eastern states of Sydney and Melbourne. Out of curiosities sake, I took a trip to Sydney in my previous uni holidays just to see what all the fuss was about. I was expecting London nightlife, New York traffic and Parisian shopping. Instead of the cosmopolitan paradise I was told to expect, I was disappointed with concrete jungles, derelict houses and park benches loaded with the homeless and the hopeless. Needless to say, I was far from impressed.

Excerpts ...
Excerpts ...
For many professionals, turning our potentials into profitable applications is a tall order. A good number who are well educated and trained do not really know who they are, let alone know what they can do. They have not taken time out to take stock of their abilities, strength and weaknesses.

PAYING MARKETS FOR STORYTELLERS |
Smaller Markets
Excerpts ...
Although there are many hundreds, if not thousands, of American publications printing fiction, only a fraction of these pay. Of these, there are only a handful that pay well. But between the ones that pay well, and the ones that pay nothing at all, there is a sizable group of magazines who pay at least something, and sometimes, as a writer, that's all you can ask for, at least something.

Piece of Gold
Once there was a holy man who sat with his begging bowl in hand at the entrance to a village. A peasant traveling down the road into the village stopped to stare at the beggar.
“Aren’t you tired of being poor?” the peasant asked the holy man.

Cancer's Child
Excerpts ...
Leo’s children are much more sensitive then people think. They can walk around like little kings wearing crowns, but almost every Leo adult I have ever met is carrying around a deep haunting childhood wound. They are also more insensitive then people think. These same adults can write you off as a loser in a heartbeat and will probably never change their minds. Even if they did find out later that they were wrong about you, they would still blame you for having misrepresented yourself. Those Leos that are lucky enough to have happy healthy childhoods are incredible leaders with a charisma and charm that is unlike any other. How do you make sure your little Leo turns out well?

The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night-Time
by Mark Haddon
Excerpts
... For me, this novel is a cross between a murder-mystery novel and a literary
one. For one, the plot of this story is very much in the style of a whodunit –
throughout, the reader is kept guessing about the answer to the question, “Who
murdered this dog?” All the clues are placed in the appropriate places in the
novel, the characters are defined and dialogue genuine. And yet, the style of
writing is so unique:...

With two
self-published novels under his belt (one of which was shortlisted for
the Portico Literary Prize) Bill Keeth recently self-published
Write It Self-Publish It Sell It ISBN 978 0 9558863 0 0 in
response to other writers’ enquiries as to what exactly is entailed in
taking the self-publishing route.
In this robustly written testament
to his achievement, the author encourages the reader to avoid the
pitfalls and emulate his personal success, relating, often in humorous
fashion, how he himself wrote, self-published and marketed his books
(2,000 copies and counting!) via book launches, booksignings and
presentations, in addition to placing them with the major bookstores and
public libraries
‘Truly informative’ Billy Hopkins,
best-selling author of Our Kid.
