I would like to thank you for your editor report on my first draft story, the report was very comprehensive and thorough. In the report you put some excellent and useful suggestions, on how I may progress forward to publishing my story. ...

I have no hesitation in recommending Aneeta's services to anyone who like myself wants to tell a story, but is unsure how to get there.

MESSAGE FROM ANEETA

Dear [FIRSTNAME],

We have a new column and there are 2 writers for this column: Paying Markets for Storytellers will feature pieces written by Paula Duggan and Alex Hutton. Both writers have very different styles of writing and manner of presentation. Nevertheless, both have made concerted efforts to present pieces that are both informative and well written and for this, I thank both Paula and Alex. Links to their very first pieces are listed below.

The winner of a copy of Don't Sweat the Small Stuff at Work by Richard Carlson is Rohi Shetty. Rohi, can you please send me an email to let me know where to send you the 2nd hand copy of this book? The winner of an old and used copy of The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood never contacted me. I am, therefore, placing this book in the contest again. Click here to enter this contest

If you'd like to offer your book as a prize for the next contest, by all means, please send me an email.

There are new stories, new announcements and lots to read.

Here's to your storytelling success.

ARTICLES FOR STORYTELLERS

Taking Your Audience into Orbit Around a Story's World

I’ve gone back and forth about how to start this article, to begin with a standard explanation of Point of View, or to offer what I really teach people who are struggling to understand how to use POV in storytelling. I decided to go with what I teach.

I teach that POV in storytelling can be compared to a concept in physics, that to change the orbit of something requires energy. Any shift in POV requires a transfer of energy in the world of the story, and some of that energy needs to be transferred to the story’s audience. Those bursts of energy are what help keep a story’s audience in orbit around a story’s world. If there’s no shift to a higher state of energy for a story’s audience, a shift in POV has failed its purpose. A POV shift that is badly done creates a negative flow of energy; the audience has to use its own energy to try and maintain an orbit around a story’s world

Born a storyteller - interview with Susi Wolf

Excerpts ...

Aneeta: On your website, http://www.wolfsongcreative.com, you give a very good answer to the question, “When did you become a storyteller?” For the benefit of my readers, I would like you to give me your answer to this question as well, please.

Susi: I’m smiling, Aneeta. When I am asked, “When did you become a storyteller?” I reply, “When I was born.” It is a gift. It is a need. And it is innate to the very makeup of being a human. And it is in all of us. I firmly believe everyone—men, women, children, and selected wolves—are storytellers.

44 reasons - interview with Victoria Gregor

Excerpts ...

Aneeta: How did you first become interested in storytelling?

Victoria: When I was growing up, I visited my grandmother Victoria often.  At bedtime she would always dress my siblings and me in my grandfather’s tee shirts, and would fix a plate of Ritz crackers with peanut butter or cream cheese for us to nibble on while she told us stories about her growing up or would turn all the lights out and tell us ghost stories.  She actually believed in ghosts, so she really had our attention.  My grandfather would sneak outside and would make spooky sounds and make scratching or tapping sounds on the walls.  Even though we always knew it was he, it still gives us goose bumps and makes our spines tingle.

INFOSYNTHESIS

How content(ed) is your business?

The stories you tell show how contented or sad you are. If you are happy and satisfied with your lot, it will show in your stories. Same way, if you are not happy. “In your presence, I am content”… This is a phrase from a praise and worship song in Pentecostal fellowships.

JACK'S FABLES

Metta Follicle & Little Al

“They all know me,” shouted Metta to no-one in particular, “And if they don’t, it’s only a matter of time.”

“You’re the best, and you’re always right. It’s important they know that too. It will save them a lot of wasted effort. Indeed once they know you know it all, and are superior to them in every way, they can fight amongst themselves to find their own place below you in the food chain.”

Piece of Gold

Once there was a holy man who sat with his begging bowl in hand at the entrance to a village. A peasant traveling down the road into the village stopped to stare at the beggar.  “Aren’t you tired of being poor?” the peasant asked the holy man.

ZODIAC'S CHILDREN

Gemini's Child

Excerpts ...

Two of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters are Gemini.  My sister has Gemini twin daughters.  One of my son’s best friends is a Gemini.  I have known a few others through friends of friends and such too.  There is one common thread woven between all of them that I have never seen discussed in the books that define the different zodiac signs.  All of the Gemini people I have ever known are hungry.  Yes, they are verbally skilled and often love music, but there is an underlying hunger in each of them.  It is as if they are searching for something, some missing piece of their life.

Ibu Maluku: The Story of Jeanne van Diejen

... Many books about the East are centred around the countries where either the British or French were colonial rulers – India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, to name a few. It is rare to read a story that is based in an Asian country where the Dutch were colonial rulers. So, I was intrigued by this book the moment I laid eyes on it. The cover image, The Bay of Ternate by Antoine Payen, gives that visual impression of what it must have been like when Jeanne first arrived in Ternate.

How about supporting the Egyptian Mau Rescue Organization (EMRO) and do both? Our animal charity supports the protection and adoption of ancient native Egyptian Mau cats from Egypt.
