Of Flowers and Men
In this day of metrosexuality and all things being equal, the question still prevails, “Is it alright for a girl to send a guy flowers?” Sure, no one even blinks when the question is flipped and it’s a woman at the receiving end but it sure does prove to be a quandary to the ladies who’d like to do the giving.
What’s our take? I say go for it! We are living in a day and age where times are changing and guys are more than capable of appreciating flowers and along that vein the finer things in life too. Not to sound patronising but we get more than our fair share of men who walked into Nook to buy flowers for their home and are not shy to state their preference. Gone is the stereotyped male who doesn’t know a lily from a daisy. Good on you guys!
Having said that, it doesn’t hurt to keep some things in mind when you decide to take that brave step and send flowers to your man. Firstly, try not to get too girly about it – you might want to reconsider that sugary sweet looking pink hued blooms for something more masculine. This could translate to keeping your choice of colours to no more than two or three. If you’re doing this for the first time, go with a bold yellow-orange-red colour palette which can be found on flowers such as the cheery sunflower, the earthy ginger flower or birds of paradise, the perennial tropical favourite. All of these are winners and work well on their own with a touch of green foliage or quite stunning when combined.
Also, be mindful of where the recipient works, it’s one thing to send flowers to the workplace if he works in an office but probably not so wise if he’s an engineer on a dusty building site, poor guy wouldn’t know where to set them down! Talk to your floral provider and get their take on what would work best. Either way, rest assured that your thoughtful gesture will be appreciated, it definitely be a pleasant surprise.
