Paying markets for the Story teller in the Asia Pacific Region.

In the Asian Pacific region and Australia there are some good paying markets for the story teller. From Australia I have found the following markets that regularly publish well written interesting stories. The readership varies in age and the circulation of the magazines is good.

One magazine that always comes to mind in The Australian Women’s Weekly. This Magazine has a circulation of over 718,198 per month and accepts submissions for short shorts as well as articles. Short stories genres include romances, mysteries adventure, but nothing of an overly sexual nature or science fiction. You can submit in a number of ways, by hard copy, fax, email or disk. Stories should have a maximum word count of 2000 to 4000 words. The magazine holds first Australian rights and copyright remains with the author. Payment rate do vary and payment is made on acceptance but be warned the magazine receives around 50 submissions a week and only publishes one a month. The average response time is 6 weeks.

A weekly magazine that publishes a fiction story each week is That’s Life Magazine. Contributor guidelines are available and the magazine has a short guideline near the back of the magazine to gives you a helping hand. Stories up to 3000 words are acceptable and submissions can be made via hard copy, fax or email and the average response time is 10 weeks with payment 4 weeks after publication. Include SSAE. That’s Life holds first Australian rights, and payment depends which section your story in printed in with appropriate amount featured in the magazine itself and is fully discussed on acceptance. That’s Life magazine is 50% written by freelancers.

This is a really interesting site with loads of information. www.expressmedia.org.au not only about having your work published in the magazine but also information regarding major competitions and loads of writing information.

Before submitting any information please remember that things can change quickly. Deadlines can be altered and editors move. Always make sure you are addressing your submission to the right person before sending it off otherwise it may not get seen. Make sure you obtain a copy of the magazines you want to submit to and get a feel for the style and the kind of stories published.
